FS#35 - Reduce database roundtrips.
We want to reduce database roundtrips. We can store some stuff in sessions, but I like the idea of keeping a persistent global data store in the server (ala mod_perl). I don't know how to do this using PHP, if possible. (memcache?)

Reason for closing: Implemented
Additional comments about closing: The new session/preference code has helped out considerably, eliminating at least one roundtrip per page request (usually more, depending on the page..). Upcoming features will improve on this organically.
