It would need a CAPTCHA or the like, to prevent spam..

This way people can easily contact a PO user, without having to publish real contact information.

This looks like something ideal.

Basically, registered, signed-in users can send messages without the CAPTCHA, but if you're not signed in, then the CAPCHA will appear.
